Let’s face it. The world seems to be utterly in love with reality shows.
Most reality shows are filled with people who are dealing with stress in all the wrong ways.
One way that people deal with stress in their lives is by overeating.
Happy and carefree people may have some fast food occasionally as a treat but they don’t live at McDonald’s.
When a person is stressed out with issues that they feel are beyond their control, they sometime will indulge in overeating as a way to distract themselves from the problem.
It appears that a lot of people are not able to associate the reason that they are wolfing down a whole bag of cookies and a bottle of milk, has nothing to do with hunger.
It’s a way to gain some pleasure and forget the pain for a bit.
We all know that people do things for two reasons only. To gain pleasure or to avoid pain.
When people eat two plates of food at dinner, they are gaining a moment of pleasure to avoid a world of pain.
The food is stimulating to them.
A big juicy burger can taste so good and if one tasted good, well two will taste even better.
The problem is that line of thought is not true.
While the first burger triggers the sensation of pleasure, most people are starting to feel full as it is finished.
The next burger does not have the same amount of pleasurable feelings attached to it.
However for someone stressed out, the thought of putting the second burger aside, is ignored because the person is so desperate to find a way to forget about the pain they are in.
Overeating has a whole host of side effects, other than gaining weight and having to buy new clothes because the old ones just don’t fit anymore.
Overeating can trigger diabetes, especially if the person is eating a lot of sweet foods like chocolate or donuts. Diabetes can be treated by insulin pills or injections.
Frequently people, who suffer from Type Two Diabetes, can control it with pills and exercise.
Severe suffers from diabetes often have to inject themselves up to seven times a day with insulin.
A study showed that diabetes is the number one side effect of being overweight.
Furthermore, 80% of diabetes cases could be eliminated if the population did not suffer from significant weight gain and overall obesity.
Stress has been shown to increase heart issues. So when you combine stress and weight gain together, a person is making it very difficult for the heart to function normally.
Being obese makes it harder for your heart to pump blood to all the regions of the body and overweight people are more likely to suffer from heart disease and heart attacks.
A recent study showed that over 20% of cancer patients were overweight and that overweight females who had gone through menopause were at a greater risk for breast cancer because body fat produces the hormone, estrogen.
A healthy lifestyle can lead to a prolonged life. Managing stress levels can help control the side effects such as weight gain and overall obesity.
