Why Moving Is Good For Your Mental Health

A change in scenery is often a great way to clear your mind, but an address change can be an even more rewarding way to start a new adventure.

Moving to a new house can be incredibly daunting, but also a really exciting way to take a deep breath and press the reset button. Once the initial stress is over, you can enjoy the benefits of moving to a new location.

It can do wonders for your mental health and help you feel in control of your life. Read on to see how moving really can be beneficial!

How moving can be beneficial for your mental health:

1. You have the freedom to make new choices. When you move to a new house, you can decide where you move and how you decorate.

* If you’ve been feeling a little lost lately, then moving is a fantastic way to regain control of your life.

* Sometimes, places and objects retain painful memories, so if you decide to move, you may have the fresh start you’ve craved for a long time.

* If you’ve just had to deal with a breakup or the breakdown of a toxic friendship, then a new start could be just what you need. Find your space and be proud of yourself for making a significant life decision.

2. You will have a sense of identity. Moving to a new home is challenging but can provide many opportunities.

* You can create something exclusively yours and design it to suit your personality. Be as quirky and imaginative as you want.

* Even if you’re in a property where you can’t necessarily make any big changes, nothing stops you from grabbing some new furniture and color-coordinating to your heart's content.

* With your own space, you can be bold and express yourself however you choose.

3. You can make new friends. Moving to a new location can allow you to see new places and meet new people. You will have the opportunity to join new clubs and pursue new hobbies.

* You may become friends with your immediate neighbors, or why not consider joining a local community group?

* You can get to know new people and see a different area of life. If you’ve felt lonely or like you’re drifting, new people can inspire you and help you reboot your self-esteem.

4. You can make happy new memories. Leave the past behind and start making new memories. Invite friends to your new place for a gathering.

* Merge old friends with new ones, or even search for a new job. Moving to a new house can be full of opportunities to connect with new people, make a new start, and invigorate your thirst for adventure again.

5. You can declutter and re-energize your space. Moving to a new place often involves packing, which means there is a fantastic opportunity to have a clear-out and start getting rid of the items you don’t want anymore.

* Take some time to declutter, get rid of the things from the past you don’t need, and start looking toward the future.

Moving to a new location can be stressful, but it can also give you a wonderful sense of empowerment as you leave one place behind and seek to make new memories in a new place.

Give your life a shake-up and your mental health a boost, and see what new adventures are on the horizon!

What Are The Health Benefits Of Owning A Dog?

Unconditional love and companionship are two of the most compelling reasons to bring a canine friend into your household. Additionally, research is beginning to show that dog ownership has many additional benefits we didn’t know about previously.

Having a dog can improve your health both physically and psychologically. Not only does your dog make you more active by pushing you to spend time outdoors, it will make you happier too.

Here are some of the biggest health benefits of owning a dog.

Dogs Reduce Loneliness

Loneliness is a horrible feeling, and it can have a negative impact on your mental health. The lonelier you are, the more likely you are to suffer from depression.

While having a dog is not quite the same as having a human friend, it can be almost as good. Studies show that dog ownership reduces feelings of social isolation and loneliness.

Aside from providing unconditional love and companionship, your dog will also push you to spend more time outdoors, where you’re more likely to interact with other dog owners.

Chatting about your dog with others or joining dog walking groups can help you to make new friends. This is another great way to combat loneliness.

Dogs Are Good For The Heart

Owning a dog can actually help you live longer. According to a comprehensive review of multiple studies, dog owners have a lower risk of death caused by heart complications and high blood pressure.

There are a few ways your pooch can improve your heart’s performance. First, living with a dog and looking after it can help reduce symptoms of stress. Multiple studies show dogs help alleviate stress and anxiety.

As an added bonus, taking your dog regular walks will ensure you get consistent cardio into your routine, which can also help minimize potential heart risks.

Dogs Help Us Cope Emotionally

As mentioned above, dogs are great for combatting stress and anxiety. Just ten minutes of time with a dog can have a significant impact on stress levels. Even just petting a dog can slow your heart rate and reduce your blood pressure.

Dogs can also help us manage crises. According to one report, military veterans with PTSD do better both physically and psychologically when they have a service dog to help them manage their condition. Veterans with dogs have fewer PTSD symptoms and better coping skills.

Dogs Keep Us Active

It’s easy to make excuses for a sedentary lifestyle. Many of us spend all day in front of a desk at work and then come home and lay on the sofa. With a dog you’re more inclined to get up and move. You need to get up and give your dog exercise, after all.

Studies show that dog owners are around four times more likely to meet the daily recommended amount of physical activity. If you enjoy spending time outdoors with your dog, you’re more likely to do active things, like going to the beach or playing fetch.

You might even end up joining groups who engage in pet-related activities or spending more time hiking and exploring thanks to your dog.

Dogs Make You More Attractive

Various studies have shown that men are more likely to get a woman’s phone number when they’re seen with a dog.

Other reports show that men and women are more likely to swipe right on pictures which include an image of a dog. Women in particular get more “likes” when they have dogs in their profile photos.

Dogs Keep Our Brains Working

Dogs can also have an impact on your cognitive function as you start to age. Studies show that pet therapy improves the cognitive capabilities of residents in senior care with mental illnesses. Some reports even show that seniors with dementia are less agitated when they have a dog around.

Additionally, your dog’s ability to keep you active will help keep your brain in good condition, which improves focus and cognitive function.

Overall, dogs are excellent for lifting our spirits, keeping us in good physical shape, and reducing the risk of mental illness. If you needed more reasons to adopt a dog, now you have six!
