When you are doing survivalist planning on a budget, or simply focusing on healthy and sustainable living, it’s very important to start using organic seeds whenever possible.
Organic seeds are a good way to avoid genetically modified products. It’s not difficult to find organic seeds either.
They do cost a bit more to buy but the food will taste wonderful, and you’ll be glad you’re not feeding your family genetically modified organisms (GMO).
By using organic-only seeds you can be part of preserving plant variety. And you'll be continuing the line of organic seeds by producing plants that also produce organic seeds if you stick to organic growing practices.
As you conduct your search for organic seeds, look for the following to find the right variety of organic seeds to grow with.
• Online Catalogs -
There are many online catalogs that you can shop from. The prices are going to be a bit higher but don’t worry; you’ll be glad you did it.

• Local Garden Stores –
Most places have local garden centers that will sell organic seeds to you. Sometimes you can buy just the number of seeds you want when you purchase them from local gardens stores.
• Friends and Family –
If you have friends and family who regularly garden, you can sometimes get seeds from them that they’ve grown and produced to be even more assured that they are organic.
• Seed Savers Exchange –
Join a club where everyone agrees to organic practices and to save and preserve seeds to share with each other. You can order online or you can join a local group.

• From Your Own Plants –
Don’t forget that when you grow food, you have access to all the seeds. Learn how to preserve your seeds yourself to ensure that you can use them year after year.
• Amazon –
Believe it or not, you can do a search for almost any type of organic seed on Amazon. Check out the business selling the organic seeds to be sure that they are certified organic.
• Survival Seeds –
Look for heirloom survival seeds, which you can be assured are organic and from a good line of well producing plants.
• Biodynamic Seeds –
Find biodynamic seeds which are produced using organic practices that consider local growing environments and produce better for certain areas.
When buying seeds, you might want to read the labels carefully and check out the supplier to ensure that you’re getting what you pay for.
Try to get untreated, organic, heirloom seeds. Don’t be afraid of hybrid seeds either, although they are known for not always producing as well as other types of seeds.
Also, realize that some farmers don’t want to pay the extra cost for having “certified organic” seeds even when they do have organic seeds.
Buy from those you trust, and don’t worry too much about whether something says “certified” unless you also want them to be certified.
