Anyone who has tried to lose weight knows about the many different diet plans out there that promise amazing results. Some of these programs claim that you can lose dozens of pounds a week with very little effort on your part. While some of these claims are obviously fraudulent, others may sound more likely to be true.
In recent years, many people have tried using the apple cider vinegar weight loss plan. Essentially, this involves taking apple cider vinegar on a regular basis to help suppress your appetite, control your levels of blood sugar, and improve your body's ability to burn fat. It sounds great, but is there any evidence to support these claims?
In fact, there have been a few studies that have found suggestive evidence that apple cider vinegar may have some beneficial effects for those trying to lose weight. It does not appear to be any sort of magic tonic that will help you get slim and fit overnight, but taking apple cider vinegar may help you out when you are trying to shed those extra pounds that you have been carrying around.
For example, a study from 2009 found that obese people in Japan ate less and lost more weight after taking 30 ml of apple cider vinegar per day. The researchers concluded that there was a positive effect from the apple cider vinegar weight loss plan, possibly due to an suppressive effect from the acetic acid in the vinegar. This substance is thought to make your body accumulate less fat.
Another study conducted in 2005 found that people who took a small amount of apple cider vinegar with their meals felt fuller and ate less than those who did not consume any vinegar. However, this study involved only 12 people, so it did not examine a very large sample size.
While these studies are definitely suggestive, a great deal more research needs to be done on the health effects of apple cider vinegar. It may well have a positive effect on weight loss, but the effect seems to be a fairly mild one at best.
One advantage of apple cider vinegar is that it is widely available. Almost any grocery store will have it for sale, so you can easily find it if you want to give it a try. However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind first.
Since all vinegars are acids, taking apple cider vinegar could damage the enamel on your teeth or injure your throat or mouth. Be sure to dilute the vinegar before taking it orally. As with any weight loss program, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor before you start taking any substance to try to lose weight.
The apple cider vinegar weight loss program may work for you, though any beneficial effect is likely to be modest. Give it a try and see if it helps you lose weight.
