If you have this problem, you may wonder what lifestyle patterns lead to man boobs. Understanding what causes man boobs can be beneficial in seeking treatment and getting rid of them.
There are two forms of gynecomastia that can be the cause. The first kind is actual gynecomastia that’s caused by the imbalance of male and female sex hormones in the body.
Then there’s another form called pseudogynecomastia that’s a result of excessive weight gain.
In either case, gynecomastia can be an embarrassing problem and it can be related to lifestyle issues in men who have it. There are several things in your lifestyle that might cause you to have a problem with man boobs.
First and foremost, if you’re overweight or obese this can contribute to man boobs. While this is pseudogynecomastia and isn’t related to hormones, it can still be very frustrating and embarrassing for men who experience it.
If you’re overweight or obese and you have man boobs, make sure that you implement a diet and exercise program to help eliminate excess weight.
One of the most frustrating things about weight loss is that you can’t target the area. Fat may come off your face first, then neck and eventually the chest area.
So you may find that even with weight loss, your man boobs tend to hang around awhile. But eventually weight loss can help.
You may have loose skin after losing weight that can be surgically removed to decrease the look of man boobs.
If you suffer from actual gynecomastia, you’ll need to look at a few lifestyle issues. Eating foods that are high in soy can actually lead to this problem. That’s because soy is full of estrogen, the female hormone.
When you have a diet that is high in soy you can actually begin to develop man boobs.
Fortunately, when you eliminate soy the problem will correct itself. Some medications can also cause the problem of man boobs.
While taking medication, if you notice that you’re developing man boobs you should talk with your doctor about this side effect. Together you can determine a course of treatment that will help you to avoid this condition.
Anabolic steroids, often taken by athletes or body builders, can also contribute to gynecomastia.
They cause a hormonal imbalance in the body that makes testosterone levels actually decrease. One side effect of this is to cause female characteristics to appear such as breast development.
The reason is the testosterone (male hormone) is diminished while the estrogen (female hormone) level rises in relationship to the testosterone. Hence, more female characteristics begin to appear.
