When you’re a man, the last thing you want is excess breast tissue giving you the look of man boobs. There are several things that can cause this to develop. This condition, called gynecomastia, is caused by hormonal problems.
Other types of man boobs are called pseudogynecomastia and are a result of being overweight or obese. In either case, dietary precautions can help you to prevent the growth of man boobs and also help get rid of them if you already have them.
For true gynecomastia, you’ll want to avoid foods that could cause hormonal imbalance. One thing you’ll want to pay special attention to is meat and dairy products that might contain growth hormones.
Fortunately, most milk these days is free of hormones but much of the meat we eat is full of hormones designed to make animals grow quickly. You’ll want to stick with organic, grass finished meats that aren’t treated with hormones.
You’ll also want to double check any milk you drink and make sure it’s hormone free. You may want to go with low-fat, organic milk that’s guaranteed not to contain hormones. These hormones can cause in imbalance in your body.
Another food to pay attention to is soy. Soy contains natural estrogen – the female hormone. Soy comes in a lot of products such as soymilk, tofu, and meat substitutes. Check labels because sometimes soy is added to products you might not expect.
Many health food stores tout the healthy properties of soy – and it can be healthy. But if you have hormone imbalance, soy is a food you want to avoid because it’s not as healthy for you. Avoiding soy is easy if you pay attention to labels.
Alcohol is another product you want to avoid if you have man boobs. Studies have shown that excess alcohol can cause fat tissue to develop in the male chest area. That means it can lead to the development of man boobs.
Recreational drugs such as marijuana can also cause you to gain weight and increase your fat cells leading to the development of pseudogynecomastia – man boobs that are not related to hormonal imbalance.
Saturated fat is another product to avoid. This is animal fat found in meats and dairy. This type of fat leads to problems such as weight gain and high cholesterol. Excess weight leads to man boobs, so you’ll want to watch how much saturated fat you consume.
Foods to avoid for prevention of man boob include any foods that cause hormone changes or weight gain. If you’re experiencing man boobs, it’s also important to check with your doctor and see if any medications you’re taking could be causing man boobs.
