As you search the internet to learn more about the Kindle Fire and to find reviews of it, you will find that 99.99% of the search results will be glowing reviews only - telling you to buy right now, in other words telling you to don't wait or do any homework first.
But before you do buy the Kindle fire online you must first make sure that you understand the potential risks to your family and your own privacy when you operate the newest electronic book reader gadget by Amazon.
The new Kindle Fire comes loaded with Amazon Silk as its default browser, but there are some things you need to know about the Amazon Kindle web browser and the impact of its integrated relationship with the Amazon Cloud before you buy.
Privacy Concerns
There’s no arguing that the split architecture design of Amazon Silk offers impressive response times; however some are raising concerns over the potential loss of privacy. Here’s why:
• Browsing Recorded: In the past Amazon has helped consumers make buying decisions through its “customers who bought this item also bought” function.
Amazon is expanding on this function by keeping a record of the web browsing habits of Kindle Fire users and learning from it.
This enables Amazon to anticipate the user’s next step, which triggers the Amazon Cloud to gather all of the information needed to complete that next, anticipated step and then preload it onto the Kindle Fire – before it’s even asked for.
By anticipating and pre-loading the next request, response times become almost instantaneous and the life of the battery is extended.
• Shared Information: Even with these benefits some are concerned about the Amazon Kindle web browser because it is unclear how much of that browsing record will be shared with advertisers and others. In the Amazon Silk Terms & Conditions the company states that, “We generally do not keep this information for longer than 30 days.”
It goes on to explain that Amazon Silk is subject to the Amazon.com Privacy Notice which in part states, “We do not provide any personally identifiable customer information to third-party advertisers or third-party Web sites.”
This official policy may help some consumers overcome any privacy concerns they have. Others may continue to worry, or they may simply dislike the idea of the Cloud looking over their shoulder, tracking their every touch-screen move.
For these consumers, Amazon makes it possible to opt out of the Cloud optimization functioning.
Then the Kindle Fire would instead retrieve all data using Amazon Silk without the aid of the Amazon Cloud.
The downside to this is that disabling the Amazon Cloud may result in noticeably increasing to much longer website loading times and increased use of battery power.
Although there are some concerns about the Amazon Kindle web browser, many people are excited by its ability to create virtually instantaneous response times, conserve battery power and improve the tablet experience overall.
Kindle Fire enthusiasts point to other benefits of the Amazon Cloud as well including the virtually limitless storage capacity and the improved streaming of movies, games and other media.
If you really love the spectacular features and benefits that the Kindle Fire tablet delivers, you will probably decide to take the risk of exposing yourself to some privacy risks. Maybe Amazon will continue to work out the best ways to improve on the system by the time orders are being delivered.
