Sometimes, no matter how much we stretch, our income won’t cover all of our expenses. The answer now may be to supplement your income.

But how do you go about it? Here are some ideas for you.

Money makes the world go round but it also keeps your household moving forward.

Whether you are one or two parents, it can be hard in these economic times to keep things afloat.

We have some ideas for you to help you increase your income.

Remember, the best place to start is a budget.

Gaining control of your income and your expenditures gives you a handle on where the money is going.

Credit cards are often a big drain and can be hard to whittle away without a plan.

Also, you will know how much you are short on your income each month.

Adding to your Income Base

Ends are not meeting but this doesn’t have to be a permanent problem.

You can find ways to bring in more money. Here are some options for you to consider.

1. Holding a yard sale – What’s more fun than visiting a yard sale? Holding one of your own.

Watch your unwanted or unneeded items going to good homes and you receiving the cash in return.

Put all of the money in a fund to be used in whatever way you need – covering the shortfall each month, building an emergency fund or planning a family vacation.

Plan a multi-family yard sale to increase your profits.

2. Find other employment – The holidays are a great time to supplement your income.

Retail stores are always looking for extra help.

If you have the time (teachers on vacation or people who have been laid off), take on a few shifts.

Find something that is fun and that you like to do.

3. Sell your goods for a premium price – If you want to open up your options to a wider audience, try selling on eBay or Craigslist.

You may get a higher price for larger items or antiques.

It doesn’t take a lot of time to set up your auctions or your ads.

You can find tips on the Internet to assist you with creating selling points that will draw the most potential buyers.

4. Reevaluate insurance companies – Has it been three or five years?

Ask your insurance companies for a better deal.

If they value your business, they will sweeten the pot to keep you as their customer.

You can save money on health, life, homeowner and automobile insurance.

5. Open a health spending account – Many people get derailed with their finances over health bills.

Head off any bills with a flex spending account.

Set aside money during your company’s open benefits enrollment period to pay for anticipated health bills.

This reduces the amount of money coming out of your pocket.
