Offering Freelance Services

Freelancing is a method of selling a service without having to enter into long and detailed contracts with a client.

Though some freelancer jobs do end up being long term.

Under the umbrella of freelancing there are a number of services that you could offer.

• Graphic design
• Writing articles, reports & ebooks
• Tax preparation
• Editing and proof reading
• Creating videos and audio
• Transcription

Practically any type of service can be offered as a freelance opportunity.

If you excel in any one area then this would be a good starting point for you.

The great thing about freelancing is that you have the ability to pick and choose your clients and projects that you want to work on.

If you end up with a fussy client, you don’t have to work for them again!

Being a freelancer allows you freedom and flexibility.

You can easily work around your family and their needs. You can set your own rates and your own hours.

Creating Informational Type Products

With this business you are basically selling information on hot topics.

Think about how many times you, yourself, turn to the internet for information.

You may need advice on dealing with chronic pain, arthritis, training your dog, potty training or losing a few pounds.

People are looking for information on how to solve their problems.

So why not become the solution maker and create products to help this growing market?

Creating informational products can include writing books and reports on various topics.

Or you can also create software products, or videos that help solve problems too.

To get started find a subject that you have experience with such as, losing weight, reducing back pain or dog training.

Create short reports and books to sell in this niche and you will be on your way to creating a successful business.

Affiliate Marketing

I like to refer to this as being an online sales person.

Instead of walking around your neighborhood knocking on doors, you promote other people’s products online.

Each time you make a sale you earn a commission.

Affiliate marketers earn a commission on products or services they sell.

Generally, affiliate marketers create a website around a niche topic.

They use content to build an audience and drive traffic to their website.

In their content they promote, review, and link to the sales pages of the products or services they represent.

Most successful affiliate marketers create a website around a certain niche. Weight loss or pet health are two good examples.

They then look for products to promote and write reviews on these products.

The affiliate places links in the content and when a buyer clicks on and makes a purchase they get awarded the commission.

Affiliate marketing can be extremely lucrative and can also be done by creating a list of subscribers and emailing them regularly.

To get started select a niche that is popular and research affiliate products and programs.

You build your mailing list you will want to subscribe to an autoresponder service.

Other ideas for starting a home business include becoming a coach, selling your own products and running membership sites.

Again use your experience in a certain area to put you on the right track.

To find the right business model for you and to run it successfully it helps if you are interested in the products you are selling or promoting!

Hi Helene,

You've given some really great ideas for what kind of online business one can start.

Regardless of what you decide, you must be able to continuously provide content to your followers, and that content has to relate your passion.

Otherwise, you won't be happy running the business you've chosen and your followers will be able to detect your unhappiness.

I also advocate that you better like what you are doing, or the niche you are working in, or you will be miserable even if you do make money.

The other thing is to always have at least a couple of income streams on the go. One can dry up on you, or you simply fall out of love with it... then at least you have the other to fall back on.
