Stop Worry in 7 Steps

Think about how much time you spend worrying each day. Has any of that worrying ever accomplished anything positive in your life?

Imagine what you could do with all of that time and energy. Imagine how much happier and comfortable you would be if you could minimize amount of time you spend worrying each day.

Worrying is a habit that we believe is helpful in some way, but it's easy to see that worrying only has a negative effect.

Worry less and live more with these strategies:

1. Put your worries in perspective.

Think of the big picture. According to scientists, there are around 100 million billion stars in the universe.

That’s 100,000,000,000,000,000 suns. Most of those stars are believed to have one or more planets revolving around them. That’s a lot of planets.

In the grand scheme of things, we just hanging out on the equivalent of a speck of dust hurtling through space.

We don’t even get to do it for that long. Your problems aren’t as dire as you think.

We’re little things on an insignificant planet. Enjoy it while you can.

2. Expect good things to happen.

You can’t worry if you expect a positive outcome. When you assume things will turn out poorly, it’s natural to worry.

Be as prepared for the worst as you can but be optimistic. Your worry isn’t going to change anything.

3. Understand what is and isn’t under your control.

We spend a lot of time worrying about things we can’t change. What’s the point?

Do what you can to mitigate your risk and then see what happens. Let go of the things you can’t control.

You can’t control most of the things you worry about any more than you can control the weather or the tides.

4. Stay grounded in the present moment.

Pay attention to what you’re doing right now. Avoid thinking about tomorrow.

Make the best use of your time each moment and the future will take care of itself.

5. Have gratitude.

When you realize how much you have and how lucky you are, the future isn’t as scary.

Remind yourself of how good you life is already. You’ll worry less.

Gratitude is a habit. Take a moment each day and mentally list the things that you’re grateful for. This can do more to enhance your perspective than you think.

6. Avoid isolating yourself.

Life is harder to manage all alone. It’s not reasonable to assume you can do everything by yourself.

It’s also less stressful to have a few friends in your corner.

Avoid isolating yourself just because you’re stressed. Your stress will only increase. Stay in touch with others.

7. Remind yourself of your past worries.

You’ve worried about a lot of things over the course of your life. How many of them actually came true? Of those that did, how bad was it?

You’ll likely discover that most of your worry was inaccurate.

Most of the things we worry about never happen. And even if they do, it’s not nearly as awful as we anticipate.

Any time spent worrying is wasted time. If there's something you can do to resolve the situation, just fix it.

Life is short and worrying detracts greatly from life. Work to minimize the amount of time you spend worrying each day. You'll enjoy life more and be more successful.

How Introverts Can Thrive in a World Built for Extroverts

Extroverts might seem to rule the world, but there are plenty of introverts behind the scenes with a lot of power and influence.

Some of the most powerful companies in the world were founded and are run by introverts.

But more importantly, how can you navigate the world and still stay true to your introverted nature? There’s a way you can thrive and still stay comfortable, at least most of the time.

Try these techniques:

1. Harness the power of the written word.

You can reach and influence a lot of people these days, especially with the internet.

While you might not be comfortable talking in front of a large group of people, you can still make your voice heard by potentially millions of people by putting your thoughts in written form.

And, all of this can be done from the comfort of your home.

Blogs, forums, and online magazines are just a few examples. You can also make good use of email in the workplace.

2. Choose your career wisely.

You can be anything you want to be, but it will be easier if you make a career choice that accommodates your basic nature.

There are many career options that fit an introvert perfectly. Find a list online and see what appeals to you and your personality.

3. Plan alone time throughout the day.

Taking a break from others can recharge your batteries and your mood.

See if there’s a way you can get away for a few minutes every couple of hours. You’ll feel better and be more productive.

4. Go with your strengths.

This is good advice for everyone, whether they’re introverted or not.

Think about your greatest strengths and how you can apply those to the world. This is a great recipe for success.

5. Pay attention to your nonverbal behavior.

The scientists tell us that nonverbal communication is more important than verbal communication. Use this to your advantage.

Think about your clothing, how you stand, your eye contact, and so on.

Become a master at the nonverbal game, and you’ll find that your reluctance to speak excessively won’t matter much at all.

6. Be willing to engage in small talk.

Introverts often shun small talk because it seems trivial to them. Yet, the rest of the world takes part in small talk.

It’s an easy, non-threatening way to fit in and connect with others. Introverts could always use another friend, even if they don’t particularly want one.

7. Stay abreast of new technology.

It’s not easy to stay current with the latest technology, apps, and social media platforms. It takes time and a willingness to immerse yourself.

This can be a great way to add value to any organization. Most introverts enjoy learning, and this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone.

8. Know what overstimulates you.

What is it exactly that wears you out? Is it being surrounded by a large group of people? Noise? Speaking to a group?

Speaking with strangers? Making decisions quickly? Each introvert is unique.

Find a place in life that minimizes situations that feel overwhelming.

You don’t have to be an extrovert to thrive in the world. There’s plenty of room for every type of person.

You can be yourself and still have a great life and career.

You’ll have to make some smart choices to get the most out of your life, but that’s true for everyone. Wear you introvert badge proudly. You can thrive as you are.

How to Avoid Regret

Do you have regrets? Do you think you’ll have greater or fewer regrets when you reach the later stages of your life? The time to avoid regrets is right now. You only have so many days, so make the very most of them.

Wise decisions and a little bit of courage are all you need to minimize the amount of regret you feel in your life.

Live each day to the fullest with these strategies:

1. Make the most of each day.

The problem isn’t that life is too short. The problem is that we don’t make the most of our time.

Think of how much time you’ve wasted over the last 10+ years. What could you have accomplished with just 30 minutes each day for 10 or 20 years?

At the end of each day, take a few minutes to reflect on what you’ve accomplished over the course of the day.

What did you get done? How much time did you waste? How did you waste it?

2. Take risks.

It’s true that you regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did. Turn up your courage a notch or two and take more intelligent risks than you are right now.

Try new activities and open yourself up to new people. Try that thing that you keep thinking about. Stop thinking about it and live it.

3. Be true to yourself.

Know your values and goals. Avoid doing things that you know in your heart aren’t right.

Trust your intuition. Of all the awful things you’ve done in your life, you knew that 99% of them were awful before you did them.

Make a list of your values and be aware of them. Before you do anything that seems questionable, remember the items on your list.

4. Avoid acting impulsively.

Whether you say something you shouldn’t have, or you take a course of action that is unwise, you’ll often be regretful after being impulsive.

Impulsivity is the result of being emotionally distressed in some way. When that happens, your ability to make good decisions goes out the window.

5. Grow.

We regret being stagnant. Looking back over the last decade or more and realizing that you’re the same person you were back then can be devastating.

Put yourself on a path of personal growth. Spend time each day becoming the best version of yourself.

6. Be honest.

Honesty is a big word. It’s not just about being truthful with your words. It’s about being open with your opinions and beliefs.

It’s about living your own truth. When you’re honest, people understand you, and your interactions and relationships take place at a higher level.

It’s doubtful if anyone escapes life without any regrets. It’s impossible to know how long your life will be, but it’s important to make the most of it whether your life is long or short.

Regrets come from making poor decisions. But one thing is for certain: life’s major regrets are more likely to result from being too cautious. Those that live with boldness have fewer regrets.

What do you think you’ll regret the most when you get older? What do you regret the most right now?

Think about the types of things you regret and decide not to make similar choices going forward.
