Diane Keaton writes her autobiography in a very interesting method, overlaying her events with those of her mother and her grandmother. It is fascinating reading, and beautifully crafted.
Then Again by Diane Keaton is a sad but lovely story of her life, intertwined with her mother's own journals.
So interesting I sat and read it in one go today.
A touching quote her mother gives in her journal sets the tone for this book ... "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance. A time to get and a time to lose.”
Touchingly detailed it covers Diane's childhood, her relationships with her parents, and moves on to her brilliant career in acting, arts and directing, her years of bulimia, and explores her deep and lasting love for the key men in her life... Woody Allen, Warren Beatty and Al Pacino.
She made classic (and even Academy award winning) movies with them all... and their legacy lives on.
A touching gesture is the one made by Jack Nicholson in sharing some of the end cut percentage of the movie they made together "Something’s Gotta Give"... thoughtful and very useful gift by Jack.
The love of her two adopted children in loud and clear in her journal entries about their development and the love letters she writes to them.
A lovely story, very touching, and written with love for all the players in her life.
I hope that her fears of inheriting Alzheimer like her mother had is unfounded.
DIANE KEATON has starred in some of the most memorable movies of the past forty years, including the Godfather trilogy, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Reds, Baby Boom, The First Wives Club, and Something’s Gotta Give.
Her many awards include the Golden Globe and the Academy Award. Keaton lives with her daughter and son in Los Angeles.
“Although peek-behind-the-curtain moments are delicious- Woody Allen! Warren Beatty! Jack Nicholson! . . . this is a memoir about a mother and a daughter, with insights and confessions and lessons to which all readers can relate.” - The Wall Street Journal
