I love this book so much, ever since I first read it in the 90's when I was managing a SkillShare project in Melbourne and always trying to find creative ways to raise sponsorhips and to make our funding dollars go further.
At this time I was also studying Pathways to Excellence by Lou Tice, so I was on a creative roll in my problem solving and business building.
This book is now out of print as far as I can see. But I managed to find a spare copy to send one of my new JV partners in our seminar and workshop enterprise.
You may be able to find a second hand copy of the paperback at amazon here: Filthy Rich & Other Nonprofit Fantasies
It can be the foundation for some workshops with nonprofits on how to become more enterprising and less dependent on government funding sources.
Most nonprofit organizations are locked into a mental mindset of being small and underfunded, overworked and underpaid.
This is sad because with a bit of creative thinking outside the box, and a little bit of guts and persuasion of staff and BOM, even the smallest organization can increase its cashflow and have fun doing it creatively!
I heartily recommend this book for anyone in ANY business that is stuck in a rut when it comes to marketing their services or products.
"Using case studies of a children's museum and a social service organization, this is an instructional manual for the nonprofit professional or board member on developing income-earning ventures within the context of the nonprofit structure.
Because the examples and lessons are mostly from museums and small social service agencies, this book would serve these organizations well.
It does not explore the methods employed by performing arts, hospitals, and educational nonprofits, all of which have long utilized profit-making ventures to underwrite their programs.
The text is enlivened with popular culture quotes, dialogue from movies, cartoons, and the like."
