Most Common Supplements that Can Help Treat Hair Loss

Hair loss is something that everyone dreads because the effects are almost always irreversible. It is very unlikely for someone who is over fifty to have the same amount of hair they had when they were younger.

If you start to notice that your hair is thinning out, is growing slower than usual or if you are losing more and more hair each day, chances are you are dealing with hair loss.

Unfortunately, there is no product or type of treatment that can magically make you grow a full head of hair in an instant.

Hair takes a reasonable amount of time to grow and using hair growth products will take months before you see the results.

You may be wondering if there is something you can do to grow more hair or at least stop losing hair so you can keep what you already have.

Hair supplements are sprouting everywhere and most of them claim that they can reverse hair loss and help you grow hair at a faster rate.

While these claims have no scientific evidence to back them up, hair supplements are still worth trying because of other benefits they offer.

One of the most popular supplements for the hair is Vitamin B7 or more commonly known as Biotin.

Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin that we get from egg yolks, yeast, liver, cheese, avocados and raspberries.

A deficiency of this vitamin can contribute to hair loss which is why some people believe that taking a sufficient amount can help promote hair growth.

Biotin is often prescribed to people who are suffering from hair loss or brittle hair because it may help strengthen the hair shaft and hair follicles.

When taken regularly, your hair will be less prone to breakage and split ends. Less breakage means healthier mane. Biotin is also said to make hair grow faster than normal.

To enjoy the benefits of this vitamin, take 30 to 100 micrograms everyday.

Another hair supplement that you may want to try is saw palmetto. This is actually a dwarf palm plant that is native to North America.

The active ingredients are found in the plant's brown-black berries. Saw palmetto was used by native Americans to treat urinary conditions and breast disorders.

It was also used to treat male and female pattern baldness.

It is believed that it works by blocking an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase from allowing testosterone from being converted to another hormone, dihydrotestosterone.

This hormone contributes to the onset and progression of hair loss among men and women because it clogs hair follicles due to excessive production of oil on the scalp.

Saw palmetto's effectiveness on treating hair loss is based on how it works instead of the evidence that it actually does.

Up to this day, there are no well-designed clinical studies that can prove that saw palmetto can stimulate hair growth or prevent the onset of baldness.

Copper is also a common supplement that is believed to treat hair loss. This mineral is involved in everything from pigment formation of hair and skin to energy production in the body.

Copper is necessary for the production of collagen, the matrix essential for strong bones, joints and connective tissue. Copper supplements help stimulate hair growth cells, allowing your hair to grow at a faster rate.

Other common ingredients that you can find on most hair supplements include zinc, B vitamins (B1, B5, B6, B9 and B 12), beta sitosterol, Omega 3 and 6, MSM, amino acids, Vitamin A and Vitamin E.
