How to Treat Skin Problems With Acid


When you think of acid, you may be thinking of a substance that’s very damaging. But there are many acids that can be used to treat acne and even prevent aging.

These are much milder than you may think, but they have big results.

Glycolic Acid. Glycolic acid is a form of alpha hydroxyl acid.

It actually comes from sugar cane plants. This is used in a wide variety of skincare products.

In high concentrations it can be used to perform a chemical peel at the doctor’s office.

It dissolves the dead skin and outer layer of your skin leaving behind new, healthy skin.

This promotes the growth of clear skin and helps to get rid of acne and wrinkles.

In milder concentrations, glycolic acid can be found in creams that help to reduce aging, acne, and helps to even out discoloration of the skin.

Glycolic acid is generally safe to use at home if you buy it in commercial products.

However, it’s not a good idea to try to give yourself a chemical peel at home. Leave that one for the professionals!

And if you decide to use glycolic acid as part of your skincare regimen, make sure you wear sunscreen.

Salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid actually has a few different benefits for the skin.

It’s often used to treat warts.

It can also be used to remove corns and calluses.

But one of its most common uses is the treatment of acne.

This acid is a form of the drug aspirin. It works to exfoliate the skin and allow dead skin cells to be shed.

This helps to keep pores clear and reduces acne.

You can find this as an ingredient in many skincare products that are specifically designed to treat acne.

In low concentrations it can be applied all over the face.

In higher concentrations it can be used as a spot treatment for acne.

This is generally a safe way to treat acne, but it does have a few side effects.

Using salicylic acid can lead to some skin irritation.

It might stink or burn or you may experience dry, flaky skin.

You can reduce many of these side effects by using a moisturizer that doesn’t contain any oils.

You can also use salicylic acid on alternating days rather than using it every day if you find that it irritates your skin.

If you have a severe reaction to it, it’s always a good idea to talk with your doctor about it.

Overall, both glycolic acid and salicylic acid are safe and effective products for treating acne and reducing the signs of aging.
