How to set up Recycling Center in your Home

One of the most important things we can do to reduce the buildup of waste in the environment is to recycle what we can.

Recycled items are used to create more environmentally friendly items.

Here are some ideas to help you set up your own recycling center at home.

Recycling takes time. But, once you set up a system that works for all in your home, it will become easier to comply and keep up the practice. Let’s get started.

Some waste management companies offer recycling cans.

Even within your can, you will need to separate items and package them as indicated by the company.

How to Set up your Recycling Station

Talk to local recycling centers – Before you begin, know what the local recycling center can handle.

In certain places, not all materials are capable of being handled.

You may only be able to recycle newspapers and plastic. Another place may include glass or aluminum.

And, also ask about instructions for delivery of these materials to the recycling center.

Use the “can” method

Most people have at least one trash can in their kitchen. For recycling, use at least three.

Color-code and label them to be used for different types of trash.

Your main trashcan could be used for general trash. Include a can for plastics and one for glass.

Kids can simply chuck their waste in the appropriate can.

Also use different color bags so it is easy to keep them from getting mixed up on the curb.

Use the “bin” method

To keep regular and recycled items separate, use your normal trash can for regular trash.

Some cities provide blue plastic bins for recycled items.

If you don’t have one, you can purchase your own. Level your bins for glass, paper and plastic.

Stackable bins don’t take up much space and can sit next to the regular trash can.

For people who read the newspaper every day, this is a good way to dispose of them for reuse.

Label your recycle bins or cans

If you leave them on the curb for pickup, be sure that your bins get back to the right address.

Invest in a can crusher

You can pack more aluminum in a bag if you compact them first.

A can crusher can be mounted on the wall next to your recycling area.

You simply crush the can after use and then place it in the appropriate bin or can.

Find other items to recycle

Office stores may take old ink cartridges and/or batteries.

Check out places that will reclaim your waste items and then add them to your recycling bins.

Recycling is an important step in reducing the world’s waste.
