How to Get an Edge Up as an Affiliate


No matter what products you plan on promoting you are going to be up against competition from other affiliates. What you need is an edge to attract prospective to your promotions over other affiliates.

By now you should have a website up and be working on creating your own list of potential buyers. This would be your lead list.

The biggest issue you will have is getting people to opt-in to your list. This is usually done by offering some form of free gift.

Setting all of this up is obviously more time consuming than just sending leads directly to the vendor’s sales page.

You want to look at this in a different way. What if you spend a huge amount of time sending thousands of visitors to the sales site, but they don’t purchase right away. If they don’t purchase the buyer is lost to you.

But you can be assured that smart vendor’s are building their own list, which you are helping them build. So why help them build their list when you can build your own instead?

Another aspect of this is if the vendor goes out of business or they stop selling that particular product. All of your affiliate links have effectively become dead. Your income is going to come to a screeching halt.

By building your own list you are in control of your income and in control of which products you choose to promote to them. In the scenario above if a product stops being sold, you can simply start promoting a new one.

If you have links in your autoresponder messages, it is just a matter of changing your affiliate link.

Now, let’s get back to how to get someone on to your list. As we mentioned you want to give them a free gift.

If you are targeting customers who have an acne issue your free report could address this issue. Then inside the report you add your affiliate links to a solution – which could be the paid product.

Even if your customer doesn’t purchase immediately they are now on your list. This gives you the opportunity to follow up with them and make additional suggestions, as well as providing more free information and tips.

It normally takes about 7 emails before a person will commit to making a purchase.

So we suggest planning out at least 7 follow up emails in your autoresponder account. Sprinkle your affiliate links throughout them.

Other ideas for free gifts include giving out a video, a slide presentation, MP3 recording or an interview.

By taking the time to put in a little more time and effort into your affiliate promotions you can really ramp up your income in a fairly short amount of time.

When you do mail your new list always ensure that you stay on topic and don’t stray, otherwise you may find that you get a ton of unsubscribes.

Plus people are going to unsubscribe anyway and please don’t let this bother you. It is all part of the game.

Keep your content interesting and on topic so your readers will look forward to opening your emails.
