How to Become an Affiliate

If you are looking at ways to make money online you may have heard that being an affiliate is a great way to achieve this. This article will deal with the best ways for you to become an affiliate.

First of all you want to understand what it means to be an affiliate. An affiliate is basically the online version of a door to door sales person.

You are recommending products and services to people. In return you receive a commission based upon the total amount of the sale.

It is really important to realize that when you promote products your reputation is also on the line. While it may be tempting to just start promoting all kinds of products, you should not.

First you want to decide what types of products you want to promote. Part of promoting any product includes writing blog posts, articles and reviews on these products.

So it will help if you promote products that you have some knowledge about. Of course you can study any new subject quickly.

For example you may already have an interest in say senior living. You may be in this age range yourself or have a senior in your family. Think about all the areas you could cover in this niche.

Senior living encompasses things like healthy eating and exercise, supplements for seniors, vacations and travel, finances and planning for retirement and more.

Can you see how you could continually write on one main topic but promote all kinds of products.

The nice thing about promoting in this way is that you know the age group and demographics of your target market. You then just write your content with this age group in mind.

Once you have decided on what topic you would like to promote you can then start looking for affiliate programs and products to promote. There are several things you will want to keep in mind when looking at affiliate programs.

See how often they pay out and how. Do they pay monthly, weekly or only when you reach a certain amount of sales such as $100 or more?

Then check to see if they take affiliates from your country and if they pay via Paypal or by check. If they mail out checks there can often be additional fees and/or charges associated with this.

Also look at what products are offered and at the quality of the products. If you are promoting supplements, for example, try to promote ones that you have used yourself.

Keep in mind too, that you can promote items from more than one affiliate program. This actually may be a good idea. If your affiliate program suddenly closes this will put an end to your income.

Some of the most popular affiliate programs are: Amazon, Clickbank, Market Health and Commission Junction.

Your next step is to start writing out a list of topics that you would like to promote, then think of all the different areas that you could write about.

After you have completed this then start looking for various products and programs that you can join.
