It's not uncommon for someone who has been doing pilates for a while to want to get a little more out of their workout. When you feel you're ready for more challenge it may be time to move up to a reformer.
While a reformer may look a little like a torture device it can actually help you significantly improve the benefits you are getting from your workout time.
If you've been thinking about getting a home pilates reformer there are some things you should consider.
For one thing you should always talk to your doctor before you start any workout routine to make sure you are healthy enough to workout.
It's also a good idea to take a few classes first to familiarize yourself with what the workout entails so you'll have a better idea what type of reformer is best for you.
1. First things first, how much money are you able (willing) to spend for your reformer?
The prices can vary drastically from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Of course, for the most part, the more expensive models will be better built and will come with more attachments, but if you don't have a lot of money you can still get a reformer that will work very well for you.
2. Make sure that you take your skill level into consideration.
It's usually best to stick with a model that is close to the one you're used to using. For example, if the studio you work out in has a traditional wooden one which you like and feel comfortable using, this would be the best type to get for your home (assuming you can afford it).
3. Pay close attention to customer reviews of whichever model you are looking at.
While it is true that people are more likely to complain than compliment, if the model you are interested in seems to have a lot of specific complaints you may want to keep looking.
Of course if someone is complaining that they don't have room for it or something unrelated to the overall quality of the product you can disregard those, only pay attention to the reviews that talk specifically about the product.
4. Most people wouldn't consider buying a car without a test drive and the same applies to buying a reformer.
Even if you decide to purchase online you can still find a store in your area that carries the same brand so that you can try it out.
5. Make sure that you take your available room into consideration.
If you will have to tuck your reformer away in a closet when you're not using it, you'll want to get a more compact model.
If you have the space to leave it out all the time you might want to consider the pretty hardwood models, they'll look almost like a piece of furniture.
When it comes to finding the perfect home pilates reformer you have many options.
Just look over the list of tips above so that you can get the right model for you, your budget, your available space and your overall needs.
