When it comes to working out, many people enjoy having the option of doing their workout at home. Having a home gym can be a great option especially if you live in an area that has a harsh winter.
It can be hard enough to gear yourself up to workout but when the weather is terrible it can be virtually impossible, and that's when having a home pilates machine can come in very handy.
Before you go out and invest in some home equipment, particularly a reformer, it might be best for you to take a few classes or have several private sessions with an instructor.
It's very important when exercising that you use the proper form, if you don't not only do you lessen the effect of the exercise but you also run the risk of getting injured.
Learning the basics from a qualified teacher can help ensure that you know what you're doing when you move your workout into your home.
You should also make sure and get your doctors OK before you start exercising, just to be on the safe side.
Don't think that if you have some health issues you can't workout at all, more often than not working out will help improve the health problems that you have, but you may need to modify or at least start off very slowly when you begin working out.
There are many pieces of pilates equipment that you may want to invest in for your home.
Some of them, such as the reformer, can be expensive while others won't cost more than $20 or so.
Here is a list of some of the things you may want to consider:
1. Of course I've already mentioned a reformer.
This piece of equipment can help you perform your moves with more control and stability which is why it can be great for the beginner. They range in price from around $250 all the way up to $1,250.
2. Pilates mat.
You want to find one that is at least one half inch thick. Since you can take your mat with you anywhere, you can do your workout at the gym or in your own backyard, it's totally up to you.
3. A pilates magic circle can provide all over toning.
The magic circle, or exercise ring, can amp up the resistance to your workouts and give you more noticeable results more quickly.
4. A fitness ball.
These are found in most sporting good stores and even large discount stores.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this piece of equipment is just a toy, it can really help you tone your core by isolating your muscles.
5. A training DVD is essential, especially if you are new to Pilates.
There are dozens, if not more, on the market today so you should have an easy time of finding an instructor that you like.
You may even be able to check them out for a small fee at your local library or video rental store, that way you can try before you buy.
A home pilates machine, or reformer, is a great piece of equipment for your home gym.
With a wide variety of prices and sizes you shouldn't have too much trouble finding the one that is perfect for you.
Having the other equipment on this list will enable you to add new elements to your workout which will keep your body from reaching an exercise plateau.
In working the core, Pilates, will improve the overall stability of the body, including posture and spine health.
