The concept of doctors is that they are for the most part, kind and caring individuals.
I mean why else would they become doctors…they have to deal with all kinds of people and a large portion of their patients show a number of stress symptoms.
However doctors can sometimes use very vivid images to get their message across, if they feel the message is not being understood by the patient.
In discussing, stress and some of the outcomes of long term stress that has not been addressed, doctors have been known to advise their patients of what can possibly occur.
I’m quite sure that you would not enjoy having your family doctor tell you, that if you do not learn to manage your stress, you could have a stroke.
Before you leave the doctors office, they are likely to give you a fact sheet containing stress relief tips.
Strokes can be varied, from mini-strokes where the person does not have any outward symptoms but may lose short term memories.
An all out stroke can cause a person to lose the ability to speak, have numbness in the face or hands. There are a variety of ailments.
The two major types of stroke are Ischemic and Hemorrhagic.
With an Ischemic stroke, blood is blocked from the brain, denying it of the oxygen which is carried within the blood.
Bleeding from an artery, that has swelled and then burst, is referred to as Hemorrhagic.
Many studies have been done on stress as it relates to stroke and the conclusions from the scientific field are varied.
However for our purposes, it should be noted that the vast majority of people who suffer strokes, mentioned that they had been under a great deal of stress.
To err on the side of caution, I would suggest that keeping stress levels at a minimum is much better than having an actual stroke.
Now it’s impossible to completely eliminate stress from ones life, however you can develop systematic ways of keeping stress at bay.
There are physical things you can do like brisk walking or skipping along a path.
When you skip and I don’t mean with a rope, you return to a childlike state and you’ll have a big smile on your face, which will reduce your stress.
There are mental things you can do to relieve stress.
Sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes, breathe deeply and exhale, repeat.
Picture yourself as you were as a six year old. You are at the beach and the waves come rushing into shore.
Joyfully run to the waves while hearing the sound of the water as it hits the shore.
As a child, jump into the waves and feel the cool water as it surrounds your body.
Now if you have done this exercise you should feel very relaxed and calm.
Children view the world completely different than adults and sometimes, seeing the world through a child’s eye, can give you a completely different perspective on life.
Dealing with stress takes a plan and using action to complete the plan.
