Like many other people that would like to harness the power of the sun to power their everyday needs, I was unsure where to start until I found this fantastic e-book DIY Home Solar Builder Lessons and Workbook.
Some of the great things about this book is how it breaks down step-by-step telling in detail what exactly solar power is, the materials that are used to harness solar power, how to tell if your house or structure is suitable for solar power as.
It is a thorough and comprehensive guide on DIY solar power for homes and also includes illustrations as well as diagrams showing how to properly wire your solar panel setup.
First I would touch on why someone should choose solar power to begin with. As pointed out in the book, there are several different reasons to choose solar.
One of the first that come to mind is the environmental aspect of solar as it is a green and renewable resource. Unlike fossil fuels like oil and natural gas that are a finite supply, solar power will always be here as long as there is a sun.
Another consideration to go with solar is the cost effectiveness of this type energy.
Although as pointed out in the book that the upfront cost are high, albeit are coming down some, your electric bill could be cut by 50% or more. After you decide why you want to go solar, then you need to make sure your site is appropriate to have solar equipment to get the maximum energy possible.
You of course would want your solar panels to have the most sun possible throughout the day, so look for potential shady spots. The best place to for your panels is on the roof if at all possible.
Take heed of your surroundings like mountains, trees, shrubs and the like that may diminish your panels access to the sun. Another great topic that is covered by DIY solar book is solar landscaping tips.
Trees and shrubs that are properly planted can add an additional 25% off your heating and cooling bill on top of the savings with solar. This book is a must read for anyone that’s concerned with having a renewable source of energy, saving money or just doing the right thing
Overall, a good instruction guide and workbook about the subject, and the bonus calculator software is great to help you work out your solar power and panel requirements.
