Best Essential Oils for Ear Infections


Anyone who has ever had an ear infection knows how painful this condition can be. Bacteria is the common culprit behind the cause of ear infections.

The tubes of the ears, whether in children or adults, are the places that bacteria seek out.

There are also viral causes of ear infections, too - such as those caused by the common cold.

You can find essential oils to treat ear infections regardless of whether they're caused by bacteria or viruses.

Several essential oils are known to help treat the pain and discomfort associated with ear infections.

These oils can also help to encourage healing. One of these essential oils is eucalyptus oil.

You use this oil in treatment by applying it topically directly onto the skin usually wherever you're feeling the discomfort.

So for an ear infection, you would want to put the drops in the area behind the ear since this is closest to the location of the tubes.

If you're applying this on children or someone with known allergies, you'll need to do a test patch first to make sure there's no reaction.

Lemon essential oil is another one that's good to use for the treatment of ear infections.

This oil works by clearing out the eustachian tubes. You would place this oil directly on the skin in the same manner that you would use the eucalyptus oil.

Or, you can put a few drops on a cotton ball and then gently put the cotton ball in the ear, but don't press it in firmly.

You also never want to place drops of essential oil directly into the ear because of the risk of allergic reaction.

You want to avoid this too because of the fact that many essential oils are only suitable for topical application and can cause damage if used internally.

An excellent essential oil for treating ear infections is wintergreen. This oil is helpful at relieving the pain because it contains methyl salicylate.

This is the same ingredient that you'll find in aspirin. This oil also contains anti-inflammatory as well as antiseptic properties.

There's an essential oil that works like a doctor prescribed antibiotic. The job of a prescribed antibiotic is to kill off whatever is causing the ear infection if it's bacterial related.

That's what purification essential oil does. When you apply this oil to the area of skin located behind the ear, it's absorbed into the body and fights the infection.

You can also use melrose essential oil. This oil is actually a mixture of other oils.

One of the reasons for its popularity besides its effectiveness is that it has the ability to treat both bacterial and viral ear infections.
