The Meridian Tapping Technique used in EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) has often been compared to acupuncture and for a very good reason.
Both healing methods rely on manipulating the body's acupuncture meridians to allow the free flow of energy.
Pain, ailments and psychological disorders are believed to be caused by a disruption or blockage of the body's energy flow.
Alternative methods like acupuncture and EFT restore balance and uninterrupted flow of energy for optimal health.
How Are They Similar?
The ancient Chinese healing method known as acupuncture has been around for thousands of years.
Acupuncture practitioners believe that there are energy meridians within the body.
These meridians are similar to streams through which energy flows throughout the body.
There are certain points along the meridians where energy accumulates called acupuncture points.
These points can be moved with the use of needles, pressure or tapping to unblock or reallocate energy.
Meridian tapping is actually based on the principles of acupuncture.
This healing method is used in EFT therapy to help clear energy blockages and disruptions along the acupuncture meridians.
EFT allows the body and mind to work together to alleviate negative feelings and emotions.
This is done by gently tapping on the acupuncture points while focusing on the ailment, physical discomfort, or psychological problem you are experiencing.
Tapping releases pent up negative energy in much the same way as needles do in acupuncture.
How Are They Different?
Although they operate on the same underlying principle, there is a marked difference between acupuncture and tapping.
Acupuncture uses needles to manipulate the meridians while tapping makes use of the fingertips to apply pressure.
Thus, acupuncture is invasive while tapping is non-invasive.
The effects of acupuncture may be more pronounced since the needles can penetrate deeper into the meridian points.
Gentle tapping used in EFT does not go to the same level.
However, some people may consider this a good thing.
For people who do not wish to undergo acupuncture, EFT provides a good alternative.
How Tapping Works
Tapping in EFT works by accessing the meridian system used in Chinese medicine.
Practitioners of Chinese medicine strive to bring balance back to the body's energy, since it is assumed that the body can heal itself and function at optimum levels when the “chi” or body energy is in balance.
Balance and free flow of energy can be achieved by manipulating specific acupuncture or acupressure points.
Tapping these points relieves trauma and reestablishes balance.
Tapping is not performed on just any location on the body.
There are specific points along the acupressure or acupuncture meridians that serve as tapping points for EFT.
The tapping points for EFT starts with the Karate Chop point which is located along the side of the hand, between the top of the wrist and the base of the little finger.
Other EFT tapping points include the top of the head, beginning of the eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, and underarm.
The EFT tapping sequence goes through all the meridians.
The reason for this is so that the affected meridian, whichever it may be, is bound to be balanced.
Tapping vs. Acupuncture
Both tapping and acupuncture are alternative methods of healing which have been shown to be highly effective even in ailments where traditional medicine has failed.
Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years while tapping as a treatment method only started in the 1980s and 1990s.
Tapping may be relatively new but it is rapidly gaining popularity because it is easy to learn and apply on one's self.
Some people may also dislike the idea of poking needles into their skin.
Tapping is a simple, non-invasive procedure that can offer many of the benefits of acupuncture.
Practitioners of EFT and other energy therapies are convinced that in the near future more and more people will employ tapping techniques to cure illnesses, physical pain, and emotional disorders.
Harness your intuition and use it to seek out the most effective tapping techniques and peel away the emotions and root causes of your problems.
