About The Kindle Keyboard 3G
The Kindle Keyboard is an eReader without touch-screen capability which utilizes e-ink on a non-back-lit screen, and a physical keyboard and buttons for navigation and accessing other features.
The current version of the Kindle Keyboard eReader is not a new product, but an upgraded addition to the Amazon Kindle family.
This model is more evolutionary than revolutionary – but the changes are welcome nonetheless.
The most noticeable change is that while it still sports a 6” screen, the device as a whole is much smaller, thinner (1/3 inch), and lighter (7 oz.) than in years past.
Screen brightness and resolution have been improved, and it also now has 3G included – though you can still get the wi-fi only version for $50 less.
The 3G version requires no fees or contracts; it is simply included as part of the devices operating system.
And it is twice as fast as the original version, with twice the memory (4GB) to boot.
This adds even more power to the built-in web-kit browser for accessing blogs and other internet material.
This version has also changed the page turning buttons so that they now make almost no clicking sound – which is nice when in a quiet library or similar setting.
Another nice new feature is that the device will now store up to 3500 books.
And while it has the advantage of not being back-lit and thus allowing reading in bright light, you can also get it with a built-in, tucked away reading lamp for low-light situations.
This light runs off the Kindle's on charge, so it remains a fully wireless device.
With the 3G function turned-off you can expect up to a month of battery life.
And as with all Kindles, it is equipped with a gyro, allowing you to read while holding it vertically or sideways.
This is particularly handy when reading magazines and newspapers.
Like all Kindles, the Keyboard 3G is designed to provide seamless integration with the Amazon.com store; and it does this quite well.
The main advantage to this is that Amazon continues to have the largest library of eReading digital products on the internet.
So your product selection choices are virtually endless.
For readers who prefer the non-touch screen eReader, this is an excellent product – and the recent changes have just made it even better.
